VitalFit is an invaluable tool for small brands and independent designers to efficiently test complex designs with highly realistic soft avatars, saving time and money.
We interviewed Meghan Laino (https://meghanlaino.com/), an experienced 3D Fashion Tech Designer specializing in intimate apparel. Intimates are very complex garments to design and test! We talked to her about her experience developing an unlined demi underwire bra and a sports bra, with VitalFit.
Unlined Demi with Underwire
Meghan: I first tried an unlined demi underwire bra.
Having realistic underwire in VitalFit was very helpful! With VitalFit’s “wearing position” the wire sits nicely under the bust.
I was able to quickly see that the gore was stretching way too much. With a pattern adjustment to the gore, it fit much better.
Initial Pattern
After Pattern Adjustment
I found the Probe Tool very useful to check if the wings are well balanced.
I was able to precisely measure the stretch at the top and bottom elastics throughout the wings, within seconds!
I was also able to use the landmarks and tapes to take on body measurements that I would typically take during a live fitting.
Sports Bra
Meghan: Next, I tried a sports bra. VitalFit’s dynamic testing was cool! I could see the dynamic bust support without having the fancy equipment big sportwear brands have.
I also quickly identified problems with my initial design. The straps kept slipping off the shoulder!
I first tried some pattern adjustments, shortening straps and bringing the pattern inwards. That helped the look but didn’t prevent the straps from slipping.
Finally, I tried a cross-back design, that worked like a charm!
Making quick pattern adjustments to the digital pattern and receiving useful feedback in 3D was amazing!
